First Steps Montessori consists of three toddler classrooms and four primary classrooms.
TODDLER CLASSESAn emphasis is placed on conflict resolution, ordering of activities, classification, self-regulation, independence, social skills, as well as language and vocabulary development. Credentialed Montessori teachers, with the help of experienced assistants, direct the Toddler classes. The children attend a child-friendly chapel service once a week as our religious component.
Ages: 18 to 36 months Time: 8:15 until noon or 8:15 until 2:30 Days: Monday through Friday Ratio: 5 children to 1 teacher Toddler I and Toddler III have a maximum of 15 children Toddler II has maximum of 10 children
PRIMARY CLASSES
An emphasis is placed on concentration, self-regulation and independent learning, especially in the following areas: language and vocabulary development, reading skills, math concepts, geography, and science concepts. These classes are directed by Credentialed Montessori teachers, with the help of experienced assistants. The older students help educate the younger students as a tool for developing self-esteem and affirming their knowledge. These students take an active leadership role in the weekly chapel service and continue growing in the Good Shepherd Program.
Ages: 3 to 6 years, this includes the Kindergarten year Time: 8:15 until 12:30 or 8:15 until 2:30 Days: Monday through Friday Ratio: 12 children to 1 teacher Primary classes have a maximum of 24 children
